Proxy Borrower Policy

The proxy borrower privilege is a service that facilitates research and coursework by allowing designated individuals to check out library materials on behalf of faculty members, undergraduate or graduate students who are registered with the Disability Resource Center , or staff who are registered for accommodation with UF’s Office of ADA Compliance. This privilege extends to all UF Libraries.

Who can apply to assign a proxy borrower?

How to apply for a proxy borrower card:

  1. Fill out our online Proxy Borrower Application form.
  2. Once approved, we’ll notify you via email that you have been issued a proxy borrower card.
  3. Get your proxy borrower card. The proxy borrower card can be picked up in person by you (the Sponsoring Patron) or the person who will borrow items in your stead (the Proxy Borrower) at any of the UF Libraries.

Terms and Use

  • Only current UF faculty, students, or staff may serve as Proxy Borrowers, and must present their own, current UFID card prior to borrowing materials on behalf of the Sponsoring Patron.
  • The Proxy Borrower card allows individuals to borrow materials on behalf of a Sponsoring Patron (the primary account holder), with the same loan periods and privileges of the Sponsoring Patron.
  • Materials checked out by the Proxy Borrower will appear on the Sponsoring Patron’s account. These materials will appear as with any other items checked out on the account, and are not distinguished as having been lent specifically to the Proxy Borrower.
  • Materials that may be borrowed with the use of the proxy borrower card include: circulating materials within the Libraries’ physical collections, storage requests, UBorrow, and Interlibrary Loan (ILL).
  • The proxy borrower card will not allow access to UF Libraries electronic resources from off campus, and does not act as any sort of campus identification.
  • Storage requests, UBorrow, and Interlibrary Loan materials must be requested by the Sponsoring Patron (primary account holder). These materials are unable to be transferred from a Proxy Borrower’s request to the account of the Sponsoring Patron.
  • The Sponsoring Patron will receive all library notices for these materials (availability notices, recall, courtesy, overdue, etc.).
  • The Sponsoring Patron may renew items online. Proxy Borrowers may only renew items on the account in-person at the library’s circulation desk, with presentation of the proxy borrower card.
  • The Sponsoring Patron is wholly responsible for materials checked out by the Proxy Borrower, including renewing or returning materials in a timely manner, paying any fines accrued for late items, and paying any replacement costs for books that are lost or damaged.
  • The proxy borrower cards do not expire as long as the Sponsoring Patron’s account is still active. If the proxy borrower card is lost or stolen, or no longer needed, it is the Sponsoring Patron’s responsibility to notify the Libraries so that it can be inactivated. To request removal of the proxy borrower card, contact libwestservices@ad.ufl.edu.
