About ILL

Who We Are

Interlibrary Loan staff includes a total of 6 full-time members who spend their days searching, ordering, and providing materials from all over the world to encourage independent study and research at the University of Florida. We also share material in the UF Collections with researchers and students all over the country and around the world. Some staff are dedicated to shipping, packaging, and sorting. Significant time is spent verifying the physical items that have arrived are actually what you ordered! We love hearing from you, especially when we’ve been able to make your studies and research easier! Our goal is to provide access to materials outside of the Smathers Libraries’ Collections, so that you can be successful during your time at UF.

What We Do

Interlibrary Loan provides access to materials that are not a part of the UF Libraries Collection including, but not limited to, loans (books, dissertations, DVD’s, CD’s, microfilm, etc.) and copies of articles and book chapters. These items can be borrowed from other libraries for you from around the state and around the world. ILL is a free service available to current University of Florida faculty, staff, and students. We also provide services to off-campus researchers and distance learners affiliated with UF. Although this service is free to our patrons, our department is given a specified amount of funding each year, which covers shipping and replacement costs when items are lost or damaged.

We are experts at finding the material you seek and getting it to you, however we are not subject experts on every field of study. Use the Subject Specialist Chart to contact an expert in your field of study. Your subject specialist can help you narrow your research to a specific item, and we can help you get it!
